Rehabilitation​

Since long researchers have been trying to develop methods and techniques to strengthen and rehabilitate concrete structures and if we say that a procedure has been devised which in technical jargon is known as ‘Rehabilitation’, a sure shot solution for your concrete problems then probably you would have had sat upright till now.

To cut through the technical terminology Rehabilitation means increasing the mechanical strength and durability. It becomes all the more evident to know the loadings both functional and environmental that the structure will be able to withstand in future. It also becomes more necessary to know the service life expected from the structure and what it actually has. When these questions get answered the ultimate stage which crops up is related to financials since the cost of fully satisfactory remedial work may prove to be uneconomical. Concrete rehabilitation is essential in critical infrastructures as any maintenance activity is performed which should be done in a planned and timely manner. Deterioration of concrete structures can be broadly classified as corrosion, crackling and spalling. Several causes are available for concrete deterioration but the prevalent reasons among them are carbonation and chloride induced corrosion of steel reinforcements or both. The rehabilitation or repair process includes removal of deteriorated, damaged or defunct concrete while carrying out an appropriate procedure for repairing the structure.

In cases of prestressed condition of concrete anchors are used to lock the stressed tendon in its position so that it will retain that stressed position. During precast concrete construction anchors are put in place to attach the precast units to the building frame. While preventing movement of slab or wall with respect to its foundation, adjacent structure or wall anchors are used in slabs-on-grade or walls or to fasten them to their adjacent structures. These anchors are an ideal basis for easy to install, adjustable fixings, saving reasonable installation time which results in faster construction and hence accounts to cost savings.

Anchoring can be of various types depending upon your requirements. The simplest and the strongest form of anchor bolt is the cast in place in which the load transfer mechanism is the mechanical interlock. Some anchors can be installed only after a drilling operation has been conducted and the variety of anchors are distinguished based on their principle of operation. The Mechanical Expansion Anchors is based on friction mechanical interlock which is guaranteed by expansion forces. Undercut anchors are based on mechanical interlock. Bonded anchors or adhesive anchors use adhesives as anchoring materials such as epoxy, polyester. Screw anchors are based on concentrated pressure exchange. Other varieties include plastic, tapcon and power actuated anchors.
